Publication of the notice of an open procedure for a consultant to evaluate and select the optimal solution for the “Greece – Albania” rail interconnection
Athens, 20 May 2021 – The notice of open procedure for the Service Contract for the implementation of the evaluation and selection of investments under the project entitled “Initiative for improving cross border transport through rail connection between Krystallopigi and Pogradec”, with the acronyme ‘CB RAILWAY’, was published in the Official Journal of the European Union.
More specifically, ERGOSE intends to commission the necessary services and studies that will determine the best investment option to be applied in the implementation of the project for the construction of the missing railway link between Greece and Albania through the wider area of Kristallopigi / Ieropigi, which will be implemented through cross-border cooperation.
This action is part of the “CB RAILWAY” project which aims to develop a joint strategic investment plan for the connection of Greece and Albania, through a new railway line west from Kristallopigi (or Ieropigi) to Pogradec and southeast to Kastoria Airport, with a total length of approximately 130 km. In the partnership of this project participate ERGA OSE S.A., the Hellenic Railways Organization S.A. (OSE) and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy of Albania.
Finally, it is noted that the Contract is co-financed by the European Union and by the National Resources of the countries participating in the “Interreg IPA Cross-border Cooperation Programme ‘Greece – Albania’ 2014 – 2020″.
The President and CEO of ERGOSE Mr. Christos Vinis noted: “This declaration is of particular importance, as the project concerns an important part of ERGOSE’s mission, the interconnection of Greece with the Balkans and Europe through the railway. It is another decisive step towards the achievement of the national objective of transforming Greece into a regional hub for logistics and transport in the wider region.
