Signing of the contract for the upgrade of the Paleofarsalos-Kalampaka rail link
Athens, 24 November 2022.-
ERGOSE’s strategic planning for the completion of critical railway infrastructure is proceeding at a rapid pace and always on schedule.
The upgrading of the Paleofarsalos – Kalambaka railway link, a project of major importance for the modernization of the national railway network, is now entering the construction phase.
In particular, the contract for the project was signed today, which concerns the installation of electrification, signaling – telecommand, and ETCS LEVEL 1 on the existing single railway line, as well as the construction of a new branch line at the Sofades Railway Station.
With the signing of this contract, the objective of contracting projects with a total budget of €515.3 million, upgrading the central railway axis Patras – Athens – Thessaloniki/Eidomeni – Promahonas, making the country’s network fully electrified, is essentially achieved.
The contractor of the project is the company AVAX S.A. The selection of the contractor for the construction of the project was carried out according to the open procedure of article 264 of Law No. 4412/2016 and under the conditions defined by this law.
The contract price amounts to €52.2 million and will be implemented over a period of thirty-six (36) months, with the aim of starting operation of the electrified railway line by the end of 2025. The total duration of the mandatory maintenance (warranty) period of the project is also set at thirty-six (36) months.
The project has been co-funded by the European Union, through the NSRF 2014-2020, under the Operational Programme “Transport Infrastructure, Environment and Sustainable Development” (OP-Transport Infrastructure, Environment and Sustainable Development).
In summary, the physical scope of the project concerns:
- Construction of an electronic signaling system with remote control by the Larissa traffic control center
- Installation of ETCS automatic train protection system for level 1 trains
- Implementation of the electrification and telecommand system of the Paleofarsalos to Kalambaka line and adaptation of the new electrification system with the existing adjacent facilities.
- Construction of Telecommunication Systems
- Construction of infrastructure and superstructure of railway line in the area of Sofades, where a 650m long railway crossing (bypass) will be constructed
- Construction of a dock in Sofades for the convenience of the public
- Small-scale renovation or repair works in the existing buildings of the S.S. Sofades, Karditsa, Trikala and Kalambaka, where the necessary signaling and electrification equipment will be housed.
