The construction project of the country’s state-of-the-art Freight Centre Complex in Thriasio Field is handed over
With the implementation of the construction works of the Freight Centre Complex at Thriasio Field successfully completed, the President and CEO of ERGOSE Mr. Christos Vinis, visited yesterday the project facilities, where he met with the President and CEO of OSE S.A. and representatives of the project’s Contractor Consortium AKTOR ATE – ALSTROM TRANSPORT SA, in order to coordinate the necessary actions for the signing of the final acceptance protocol of the project by the infrastructure manager, OSE SA.
This is the completion of a project of key importance, as the Complex is the first integrated and modern combined transport freight centre in our country, through which the concentration of most of the railway activities that are currently scattered in the wider area of the capital is achieved.
It is noteworthy that the Freight Centre Complex at Thriasio Field will be the central freight station of Greece, while it has the specifications to function as a major international freight centre, contributing to the achievement of the national strategic objective of making the country an international hub for the logistics sector, as the wider complex will house customs offices, OSE maintenance factories, as well as large management and logistics companies. In fact, the importance of this major project is even greater if one considers its connectivity with critical infrastructure, such as the port of Ikonion (PPA), Athens airport and the road network, which distinguishes it from most of the European hubs, which are usually connected by two means of transport (mainly road and rail).
It is noted that the final acceptance protocol concerns the Contract “Construction of the 2nd Operational Phase of the Thriassio Complex and Construction of the Zefirio Station” (AS 541/13), which was financed under the Regional Operational Programme of Attica (ROP Attica) 2007-2013 and includes the following:
– Superstructure works of part of the railway lines within the Complex
– Signalling, telecommand and electrification works of all lines
– Construction of the necessary buildings for the implementation and operation of the Complex’s operations
On the occasion of yesterday’s meeting, the President and CEO of ERGOSE Mr. Christos Vinis noted: “Today we are particularly pleased to be in the very pleasant position of being ready to sign the handover of an emblematic project, which is the most important combined transport hub in our country. This is why I would like to congratulate the consortium and all stakeholders for the excellent implementation of a project that marks the beginning of a new era of development for the capital city and an important step towards the future of the transport sector. This project is undoubtedly an important milestone in the history of ERGOSE and its contribution to the development of the Greek economy and society”.
