Replanting of olive trees by ERGOSE at OAKA in view of the Women’s World League Super Final
Athens, June 2, 2021 – Continuing its innovative environmental program to save olive trees from the areas where it implements projects, ERGOSE S.A. carried out yesterday the transplanting of olives at OAKA. Specifically, olive trees from ERGOSE’s railway projects in the Peloponnese were transferred and transplanted to OAKA, in a symbolic gesture ahead of the Women’s World League Super Final that will be hosted at the stadium’s facilities from 14 to 19 June.
The transplanting of the impressive trees that took place today, in the presence of the President & CEO of ERGOSE Mr. Christos Vinis, the representative of the Green Fund, Ms. Vidalis, as well as the General Manager of OAKA, Mr. Konstantinos Halioris, is a continuation of the environmental action developed by the Company for the protection and promotion of this valuable plant capital.
More specifically, ERGOSE, in the framework of its Corporate Social Responsibility, has designed and implements an innovative programme for the rescue and replanting of olive trees from land expropriated for construction projects. This is an initiative developed for the first time in our country, which aims to manage olive trees and save them through their transportation and transplantation, in cooperation with public and private bodies. The cost of the environmental programme is financed by the Green Fund and, for the three phases already completed, it has exceeded €150,000, and 216 olive trees have already been rescued, many of them over-aged.
Referring to ERGOSE’s environmental action, the President & CEO of the company Mr. Christos Vinis noted, among other things, that “The olive tree will always symbolize prosperity and hope and will be part of the Greek tradition, which we must highlight, especially in the current situation where society and the economy of the country are in recovery. It is important to bring the environment into the equation, as it is a prerequisite for sustainable development. At ERGOSE, we are committed to continuous efforts to protect the environment, always in close cooperation with the relevant bodies and our fellow citizens.”
