7 projects with a budget of €515.3 million tendered over the last two years – the procedure for the Competitive Dialogue projects is completed
Athens, October 22, 2021 – The tangible results of ERGOSE’s strategic action plan over the last two years, which provides for the implementation of projects with a strong developmental footprint, were described by the company’s President and CEO Mr Christos Vinis from the podium of the Athens Investment Forum conference.
Mr. Vinis stressed that seven projects of €515.3 million have been tendered so far, and the procedures for the tender of the six projects of the Competitive Dialogue, with a budget of €3.3 billion, are being completed. He pointed out that the progress made during this period is reflected in the absorption of Community funds, with the rate of growth returning to positive territory after almost five years.
“ERGOSE today designs and implements projects with a strong developmental footprint, which radically change the landscape of passenger and freight transport in our country. Landmark projects that create added value for society and the national economy, enhance Greece’s competitiveness and at the same time serve the strategic objective of transforming Greece into a transit center of South-Eastern Europe.”
The President and CEO of ERGOSE referred to the acceleration of the procedures for the completion of key infrastructures that upgrade the country’s railway network with the tender of seven projects, with a total budget of €515.3 million.
“From the very first moment we took over the management of ERGOSE, in the autumn of 2019, our primary objective was to focus on identifying and solving problems that have historically acted as an obstacle to the completion of railway projects.
Realizing the necessity to overcome these problems in order to unlock projects and move forward with their implementation, we unblocked administrative acts that had been frozen for a long period of time and proceeded with tenders and contracting of projects worth hundreds of millions of euros.”
It’s about the projects:
Construction of a railway station in Neos Panteleimonas, Pieria
Installation of an electrification and signalling system on the Larissa -Volos line
Installation of a signalling system on the Thessaloniki-Eidomeni line
Electrification of the Paleofarsalos-Kalampaka section
Electrification of the Kiato-Rododafni section
Subsidy and electrification of the Rododafni-Rio section
Second phase of the development of the Athens Central Railway Station
At the same time, ERGOSE is ready for the tendering of six key projects, with a total budget of €3.3 billion, which will contribute to the upgrading of the cross-border interconnection of Greece with south-eastern Europe and the connection of the country’s main ports with the national railway network. These projects concern the connection of the ports of Patras, Lavrio, Rafina, the 6th pier of the port of Thessaloniki and Kavala as well as the upgrading of the connection of Alexandroupolis.
As Mr. Vinis explained, ERGOSE has completed the procedures for the corporate governance of the Competitive Dialogue and has formed the organizational structure, in accordance with the guidelines given by the World Bank. The drafting of the Call for Expression of Interest documents for all six projects has already been completed and the final inputs remain. Similarly, the tender documents for the consultants are being finalized.
“With significant work already underway and future projects on track, ERGOSE is formulating and implementing a holistic strategic plan to create a modern, reliable, safe and sustainable rail network.
To implement these projects, we utilize the accumulated experience of 25 years of our people and their great potential. We recognize their contribution and therefore invest in them to develop and improve their skills.”
