Athens, August 30, 2021 – ERGOSE continues with unabated pace the procedures for the completion of key infrastructures that upgrade the country’s railway network, proceeding with the tendering of four projects, with a total budget of €373.9 million.
At the same time, actions are being accelerated for the tendering of six strategic projects with a total budget of €3.3 billion through the Competitive Dialogue.
Specifically, on Thursday 26 August, the Board of Directors of ERGOSE approved the inclusion in the tendering schedule and the Proclamations of the following projects:
- Construction of an electrification system and anti-noise sound barriers on the section from Kiato to Rododafni, with a design budget of €84 million (including VAT).
- Construction of railway stations and stops (buildings, platforms, shelters and surrounding area), superstructure, electrification, signalling-telecommand, ETCS, telecommunications and E/M installations of Panagopoulas tunnel for the new railway line Kiato – Patras, in the section Rododafni – Rio, with a design budget of €175 million (including VAT).
- Remaining railway infrastructure, superstructure and electrification works at the Athens Railway Station and its connection to the Metro – Phase B of the Athens Railway Station, with a study budget of €42.1 million (including VAT).
- Construction of electrification, signalling – telecommand and ETCS of the existing single railway line Paleofarsalos – Kalambaka and construction of a new branch line at Sofades Railway Station, with a study budget of €72.8 million (including VAT).
The first two projects concern the completion of the new double railway line of the Piraeus – Athens – Kiato – Patras network, which is part of the Piraeus – Thessaloniki – Border line and is connected to the European rail network. They are part of the modernisation projects of the Athens – Corinth – Patras railway axis, which aim to reduce accidents, improve Greek rail transport and improve the competitiveness of the railway. These projects support the economic development of the Peloponnese and the national economy in general.
The project of the second phase of the Athens Railway Station is part of the development of the Athens Suburban Railway, which has been characterized as an infrastructure project necessary for the daily travel of the residents of the Prefecture of Attica, while projects are already underway to improve the railway network of Attica in the section from Piraeus Railway Station to the Acharnon Transport Centre (SKA) and in its section from Three Bridges to the Ano Liosia Station (connection to the High Speed Railway Line). In particular, the second phase of the development of the Athens Railway Station involves the realignment of the line layout, reconstruction of its functional elements (platforms, pedestrian crossings, etc.), installation of electrification, and parallel construction of the necessary infrastructure (foundations) for the building works to be completed in the future.
The Paleofarsalos – Kalambaka railway line project includes the installation of modern electrification, signalling – telecommand and ETCS systems on the single railway line starting from Paleofarsalos, passing through Karditsa and Trikala and ending in Kalambaka. At the same time, among other things, a platform will be constructed in the area of Sofades, small-scale renovation and repair work will be carried out in the existing buildings of the railway stations of Sofades, Karditsa, Trikala and Kalambaka, as well as the replacement of 38 existing Automatic Level Crossing Systems (ASID) with the addition of a new ASID in addition.
The President and CEO of ERGOSE, Mr Christos Vinis, made the following statement: “Through a series of direct actions, in full cooperation with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, ERGOSE manages to proceed rapidly with tenders and contracts for projects that significantly upgrade the country’s railway network.
