The project involves the complete reconstruction of the Agios Stefanos bridge in Attica, which restores the traffic in the right branch (upstream) of the Athens-Thessaloniki line.
The project involves the complete reconstruction of the old tunnel, with a larger cross-section to allow for electrification and an increase in the freight load (due to the use of a larger train range), as well as the track laying with materials of modern standards for maximum speeds.
The project contributes to the restoration and smooth operation of railway traffic, aiming at doubling the line capacity and therefore serving a larger transportation load.
