Completion of Athens Railway station upgrading – Phase B

The project includes the necessary works for the completion of the upgrade of the Athens Central Railway Station (S.S.A.), i.e. the completion of the eastern part of the station (the western part has been completed and put into operation).

The work comprises the construction of railway lines 1-6, part of the underground crossing which provides connection to all the platforms of the railway station and the connection to “Larissa” station, of Attiko Metro S.A. and the formation of the station area.

The works will be implemented without rail traffic interruption, with the electrified right half corridor of the Railway Station (Railway Lines  7-10) in operation and the uninterrupted passenger access from the east (Diligianni street) and the west (Konstantinoupoleos street) secured.

More analytically the project includes the following:

-Construction of new platforms no 1, 2 & 3 (of the new Lines 1 – 6) of Athens Railway Station, including provisional sheds and E/M works that will make the platforms operational.

-The construction of the superstructure of the lines 1 to 6 of Athens Railway Station.

-The electrification installation on lines 1 to 6 of Athens Railway Station.

-Completion of construction of railways station underpass with staircases and elevators, and connection to “Larissa” Station of Attiko Metro S.A.

-Demolition of the old underground pedestrian passing and completion of a new small-scale pedestrian underpass.

-Construction of three (3) steel pedestrian overpasses within the limits of Athens R.S.

-Completion of grade-separated crossing at Pelopos str. at the entrance of Athens R.S.

-Completion of vehicle and pedestrian underpass at Domokos str. at the exit of Athens R.S.

-Construction of remaining electromechanical installations in Athens R.S. (lighting, elevators, pumping stations).

-Reformation of the traffic network in the wider area, through road works, hydraulic works, restoration of installations and buildings, planting and fencing works at Athens R.S., which are required to ensure operability of the existing rail network.
