Signalling – Electrification of Larissa – Volos

The project involves:

• The construction of the Electrification System with trolley-type overhead contact line on the 61.5 km long Larissa – Volos single railway line, the Rizomylos traction power station and its connection to the HEDNO network, the electrification’s telecommunication and remote control system (SCADA) and its inclusion in the existing Remote Control Center in Thessaloniki.

• The construction of a new deviation of the single normal gauge railway line, in a section about 10 km long [km. 49+184 (before the entrance of S.S. Latomeio) until km. 59+677 (entrance of Volos R.S.)] which will replace the existing non-functioning metric line in the same section.

• The installation of a modern signaling system equipped with tele-commanding and ETCS Level 1 as well as its approval by the European Union Agency for Railways (ERA).

• The renovation of buildings in R.S. Chalki, Melia, Kypseli, Armeni, Velestino, Latomeio and Volos.

• The construction of a new passenger stop in the Industrial Area of ​​Volos city, to serve the working personnel of the Area.

• The expropriations required for the construction of Rizomylos substation and the plots of land required for the pillars installation serving the Public Electricity Power transmission line.

• The Public Utility Networks relocation by the competent Organizations and the archaeological works conducted by the competent Ephorate of Αntiquities in the Prefectures of Magnesia and Larissa.

• The planting works along sections of the new deviation R.S. Latomio – R.S. Volos.
